I am currently beginning my 4th term as a Master's student in architectural engineering. I have a relatively minor background with respect to Intelligent Buildings, as I did not go to school for engineering as an undergraduate. I began my engineering studies only a year ago, but have since started working as a Research Assistant for Dr. Wen in the Civil Engineering Department. As an RA I have focused on HVAC automated fault detection. Through this research I have been exposed to some controls, sensors, databases, etc.
During the course of this class I am hoping to become familiarized with other aspects of modern buildings. I feel that my expertise is very focused right now and want to expand my exposure to where buildings of the future are headed.
My first reaction to the term Intelligent Building is development of new, modern techniques in building construction, operation, and commissioning. There is a lot of data out there and it is not being utilized as thoroughly as it could be. This data can be used to help increase efficiency in several aspects and save both energy and money.
