BIM programs such as Revit currently have great advantages
for many different fields of expertise in the engineering workplace. The major improvements that will likely take
place are in user interface and organization.
This will mainly be beneficial to owners due to the amount of useful
information and technology that can be applied to an owner’s role. When owners are able to become more involved
with the design process the amount of opportunities for mistakes, and therefore
increased costs, is reduced. This will
be reduced since the owners would be able to directly see the effects of
changes on overall costs and the effect on the schedule. There will also be improvements in the areas
of design that affect the architects and engineers. The software will only continue to improve
the accuracy of calculations that can be completed as well additional
calculations. The use of BIM has many
advantages to the construction industry as a whole and will only continue to
improve.

I agree with you about the advantages to the owners, using
the quantities to accurately check for the most cost effective solution. I also agree that the software will continue
to develop, I did not remember to mention how this could be beneficial for
checking codes as well but this is a good point.
Ami:
It seems that the obvious and reoccurring theme is the major
benefits BIM could have on the owner’s portion of projects in the future. I am not so sure that the third bullet you
provide about customer service belongs in this post, mainly because this is
already taking place in practice.
Rikki:
I agree with the first point you bring up, however I believe
this holds true for many programs when first introduced. This issue will be reduced in the future due
to the programs becoming more fine-tuned and intuitive. The second point you speak of should also be
resolved in the future with program updates or possibly even plugins.
