B1 Post - Group E - Societal Effects of Artificial Intelligence

The New York Times article “Study to Examine Effects of Artificial Intelligence” comes with an interesting and generally controversial subject: A.I.

Scientists have begun to study the effects of Artificial Intelligence on society. It is controversial due to it may permanently replace human workers, but also it can help in cases of hazardous situations, such as fires.

The issue is intelligent machines are supposed to be ready to exceed human abilities, leading to the fear to the loss of control of A.I. systems. Thus, society should be careful when finding solutions, since it can produce a lack of jobs on a large scale, resulting in a collapse in the current society model.

On the other hand, Artificial Intelligence can be strongly useful. In any risk situations, for example, an terrorist attack, where people are exposed to danger, many lives can be saved. Another example could be nuclear accidents, avoiding human beings to be exposed to radiation, what can cause a lot of deaths and genetic mutations.

Considering these facts, A.I. must be used with wisdom, by people who are highly qualified, to avoid the negative effects that it can offer to the population.

  1. You brought up an interesting topic, and certainly beyond the great benefits that this could bring to jobs involving high risk, this could have serious impacts in other areas, such as job loss. good work.
