As a Architectural Engineering student concentrating in Digital Building field, it is very necessary to understand the concepts of such thing as database, network and sociology. I have taken some required course about those factors and had a further understanding of them.
Database:
From what I have learnt from INFO-210, the database is a collection of related data. The most common used database system is the Database Management System (DBMS) which is a software package to facilitate the creation and maintenance of a computerized database. The database system is very strong at organizing the the large selection of data and can definitely be used into managing the data of any structure.
For instance, speaking of the intelligent buildings in the future, it is almost impossible to store such a large number of data with out using Database Management System. The DBMS could also secure the important data from betrayed. On the other hand, when the certain technician would like to view a specific data, they could find out that data straight away by using DBMS without spending a lot of time on searching them. Finally, the DBMS would also limited the number of redundant information and make the data easier to manage.
Network:
The network is a huge collection of connected computing devices from many hosts to many end systems. As the most commonly used technology, network would sure help with the building construction as well as all there building design processes such as exterior design, structural design and mechanical design.
For example, with the network the design team members don't have to work in the same place or even don't have to meet in face. All team members could just meet online anywhere and anytime. On the other hand, the network is providing a large selection of references for the designer.
Sociology:
The sociology from my understanding is how people grouped and live together. Without society, nowadays nothing can be done. On the other hand, sociology also influence the building design, for example, the design can not be formed without society.
Future:
The development of the modern technology is extremely fast and already applied to many field such as electric divides, transportations and medical. The modern technology has also been used in to building design, in the future, I believe that more and more modern technology will be used in in the building design process to make the design more efficient and use less man power.
