Week 2 Group A - Technological Effects on the Construction Industry
Although it may not be in the near future, we believe that the area of construction most susceptible to technology changes is the physical labor. Artificial intelligence could be used to create robots to do physical labor. Certain jobs like cleaning debris and working at heights can be very dangerous for humans. Having robots complete these tasks would decrease possible human injuries in the workplace. Also, robots would have the ability to complete repetitive tasks more efficiently than a human would. Robots also have the possibility of having higher tolerances than humans for things like the elements and strength. A robot could work more easily all year round in a variety of elements than a human could. It also may be able to lift and maneuver heavier building materials than humans. The use of robots to complete physical labor would have ripple effects in that blue collar workers will lose jobs and more technologically educated workers will gain jobs.
