B1: Week 2, Group E, Hamad Al-Sulaiti

Database:

Through the increase in technology, today, the traditional encyclopedia books have been replaced through databases that can be access remotely from various technological devices. Databases are basically the heart or brain of technology as it saves critical information for either retrieval or commands that allow technological devices to operate in a certain way. For students in this technologically advanced generation, getting access to information has become quick and less labor intensive (as their is no need to walk around the library to search for a certain book), rather there is an opportunity to retrieve information from databases, whether it be scholarly journals, or ebooks. This also goes hand in hand with the other topics mentioned, as databases save physical space and manufacturing of the books, which harm the environment. Thus all these remote databases that operate through small pieces give the opportunity for humans to reach their efficiency potential, while reducing the cost, whether it be environmental or financial cost.

Network:

Networks are when different groups/systems are linked together, some examples of networks include: computer network and data network. These networks allow for communication between the various links within a given network allowing for easy and simplified transfer or exchange of information, simplifying human interaction within a given network. The networks usually operate through the help of various technologies, which include the internet or telecommunication mediums; allowing for technological rather than physical transfer or exchange of data. Through the increased technologies, these networks have included handheld mobile smart phones to the mix, allowing for further simplicity for the human. The networks have changed the way humans transfer information such as data files, personal messages, and images to other devices.

Sociology:

Without a doubt, technology has molded the way the new generation act and think, meaning the people's overall interactions with one another and with the way they act in certain situations has drastically changed through technology. In many of the industries, production of certain products has replaced countless of human labor workers, meaning humans are replaced by robots/machines due to the increase in the sophistication of technology in general. Not only has technology been able to replace humans in the manufacturing business, yet also in the customer service area, as there is discussion on having a robotic customer greeter at shops in Japan, in order to avoid having humans there. Also, many humans have been increasingly connected through technology. Whether it be through instant messages or instant video-calling, but on the same side they have been so technologically driven that there is less physical social interaction, as each is busy with their personal technological device. I believe that technology is limiting social interaction rather than connecting us, it is limiting and simplifying human's roles in societies, making humans less as leaders, rather as followers.

Future:
Given the troubling environmental situation that is happening in the world today, I believe the future of technology will somehow revolve around the sustainability of the environment. For example, we would reduce the amount of pollution emitted from various daily activities that are conducted. Through technology we can allow people to resume in their daily lives as usual just through a different method. One example, is electronic cars that do not emit harmful emissions into the atmosphere. Another example, is that technology would probably increase the efficiency of the various 'green' household items that would consume less energy, but that the same time produce the fastest and best result.

Comment on Angie Castro:
You brought up a great example on how robots can be helpful in future. It is always important to consider how much cost an owner is saving when replacing labors with robots. However, it is also important to understand that robots are less accurate when doing a job and can cost a lot to improve them or to command them to specific tasks.
