There are several advantages that owners and managers of the construction field can
have using platforms
of Building
information modeling (BIM)
nowadays. This type of softwares, such as Autodesk Revit, Intergraph
SmarPlan 3D, and other variety of BIM programs have a great ability to
save time and reduce the possibility of errors in projects of engineering. The
ability of these programs to save time is very good, this type of technology
has revolutionized a market that once was all done manually, which took to be
able to finish a project many types of skills as well as time since only one
person could work in that drawings. With the arrival of BIM, reduce
the possibility of errors is much larger today than were before, companies have
nowadays departments focused only on the quality of the drawings, in which
minimum error can also be repaired. This type of software is involved in all
parts of the construction nowadays, not only drawings of buildings are made
with this technology, but also is used to produce of assembly and maintenance
of structures, cargo moving and another infinity of designs types.

I did a technical degree in
structures at the same time when I was in high school in Brazil, and there
were some classes of the course that we could not use any kind of
software, all drawings were done by hand. Doing that you can see how hard was
that time before BIM, a lot of problems ended up happening. First, you should
do your project in a big table specifically for this purpose, You had
to hold the ends of the drawings on the table with a kind of tape, and often it
would cut your sheet when you try to get it out. Another problem is if you had
an error in the end of the drawing you could not just delete and
do it again as we do in BIM software, you should redo all the work from
the beginning. Too much of other problems could happen at that time. After
graduate in this Structures degree I worked for years as a designer of steel
structures, and when you talk with senior people who worked at that time
drawing things by hand, and today doing this in BIM softawares you can see how many it
changed the field of construction.
I know that this kind of technology will continue to evolve with
the various companies working in this ans it is a really usefull tool, ofcourse
with a lot of other tools for the future, I think that the BIM will continue to
be a great tool for construction of Intelligent Buildings.
I really like how you indicated how BIM benefit the Owners and mangers because they are two very important aspects in the construction process. However, the chapter is about the contractors and how they could benefit from BIM, as we are going to be part of the contractors in the future, the chapter have told us what BIM tools such as clash detection, BIM detailed building modeling we could use as a advantage in the construction phase.
